“Daughter”, said Father….
Is a series I have been working on for a long while, which expresses the often tangled and complex relationships between fathers and daughters.
Many of the images are highly personal to me, but I think universal in their emotional complexity. The highest form of art I can share with anyone is an expression of what comes from the deepest places within. I have done a few things in this series that I have not liked to do: Self Portrait (horrors) and writing about myself. It's been good for me to do it. (Getting beyond myself is hard.) The other thing I don't do unless I am creating a card, is to write on my images. But it seemed important to do that, somehow.
I often tell my Trillium Gallery artists that without heart, there is no art… just mashed up paint or digital renderings that mean so little.
I tried to follow my own advice :-)
